Monday Menu Plan Day

1. Sausage and chicken stew with rice
2. wednesday - roast (on big time sale!), roasted baby potatoes
3. "shake and bake" chicken
4. BBQ pork chops
and...
5. tonight - breaded fish, cauliflower, tomatoes with brie. Man, am I ever a sucker for brie....well, any kind of cheeze, actually. This was not the cheapest meal ever, but the brie was sure worth it!

And while we're on the subject of food, I must report on the recipe I linked to last week. Lactose Intolerant friends may want to avoid that one. Wow, was that ever a lot of cheeze, and I really like cheeze. Maybe if it wasn't a pizza where you pile even more cheeze on top the crust probably would have been really good. It held together really well and was quite tasty.

I also have found that my big kid child LOVES hummus. She gobbles it up. She ate it tonight instead of supper. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined she'd like it. So, I guess I'll have to make that more often. Grama D. puts olives in it and it's so yummy, so I bought some of those to try.

Well, I'm getting tired of hearing baby crying (I'm building up my tolerance (just kidding)) so better sign off.

Freezer Feeding

I've been trying to feed the freezer in advance of post-partum craziness and it hasn't been going well.
I mentioned I'm not so good at following directions. I made - tried to make - calzones thinking that they would be good to pull out and nuke in really desperate times. I even used a recipe and followed it reasonably close. I just substituted spelt flour for the wheat and olive oil for the vegetable oil. Shouldn't have been that bad, right? Well, I knew something was amiss when half of the filling was left in the end. They ended up being meat flavoured buns. I froze them anyway in case it really gets THAT desperate.
We made the rest of the filling into spaghetti sauce and had it with egg noodles. I was quite ill that night as wheat and I don't get along. I still try, I don't know why. One day maybe I'll learn. But I froze a bunch of that into a casserole before I realized the big mistake I'd made. So now there's a great big pan of it in the freezer, and I can't eat it. That was smart.
Next I made Jambalaya. I make Jambalaya all the time, so thought it would be a sure thing. Well, I think the little green peppers I picked out at the grocery store weren't exactly Jalapenos, or maybe they were really mad little jalapenos. It ended up being so hot it was hard to eat. So we fed it to our brother-in-law who likes that sort of thing. I did mix in a bunch of rice and froze one container, but it's not exactly what I had in mind. The thing is I'm not sure how much spicy stuff the new nursling will tolerate, certainly, burn-your-tonsils hot might just be asking for trouble.
Next I have a meatball recipe that everyone raves about. I figure I'll just make lots and lots of meatballs and freeze those by themselves. How can I screw that up too badly??

Learned a valuable lesson last night

I guess I just had to try it and see.
It was probably the stupidist thing I've done in a long time. Right up there with mentioning that cord prolapse is at least as likely as uterine rupture....

Now, Don't ask for details, please. You won't like it. I just finished answering that question to a co-worker and I'm sure he's hiding somewhere now trying to forget. I'm warning you ahead of time.

Yes, it is confirmed, once again, I should not eat wheat. Reaaly, reaaly shouldn't eat wheat.
The buns were the carrier for the garlic butter, which I should have just eaten straight. I lost count how many I stuffed into my greedy, needy gullet.
And then had 2 more before bed. Because Pregnant People can justify eating ANYTHING.

Yes, I've learned my lesson. And now that I'm all cleaned out I'm turning over a new leaf. Well, ok, because I'm on not so good of terms with my stomach today, and it won't hold anything but the most pristine of foods, I'm NOT ABLE to eat anything gross. So, yes, it's the day after Halloween and no more sugar (on the midwife's suggestion), wheat (duh), other artificial stuff. For a while anyway.

I've been pretty good so far, having eaten 2 bananas, 2 cups of tea (one ginger and one peppermint, both of which are supposed to be good for irritated stomachs), and a handful of nuts. I'm sure I'll need something more sustaining soon.

Yes, I learned my lesson. I think it's proven beyond any doubt.
